AI Use & Disclosure Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Purpose
ATC Connect offers AI-assisted note-taking and, for eligible therapists, diagnostic suggestions. This policy explains how those features work, in line with AHPRA’s guidance that practitioners remain accountable, understand the tools they use, are transparent with clients, and obtain informed consent.
2. What AI does — and doesn't do
- Converts session audio to text during the session; audio itself is not retained afterwards.
- Drafts a session summary and suggests relevant homework resources from the shared library.
- For Accredited-tier therapists with an appropriate registration, may suggest DSM-5 diagnostic considerations for the therapist to weigh up.
- Does not produce a diagnosis, and does not finalise or save any note without a human therapist reviewing and approving it first.
- Does not use your data to train AI models.
3. Consent
AI note-assist is opt-in. Before your first session, you’re asked to explicitly consent or decline — declining does not affect your access to care, and your therapist will simply take notes manually instead. You can change this preference at any time.
4. Accountability
Your therapist remains fully responsible for your clinical record. AI-generated content is always labelled as a draft, is editable, and cannot be saved as a final note without the therapist’s review and approval. Every approval is logged with who approved it and when.
5. Diagnostic suggestions
DSM-5 diagnostic suggestions are shown only to therapists whose registration and tier support them, always carry a clear disclaimer that they are suggestions only, and require the therapist to confirm their own clinical judgement before any suggestion is used in a record.
6. Bias and limitations
AI output can reflect bias and should never be relied on uncritically. Therapists are guided to treat all AI suggestions as a starting point for their own clinical reasoning, not a replacement for it.
7. Where your data is processed
AI processing takes place within our infrastructure and named service providers only — see Subprocessors & Vendors. No clinical content is used for purposes beyond delivering your care.
